Regular users of the Scone Regional Livestock Selling Centre and Truck Wash facility will need to undertake site inductions over coming months to improve safety practices for people and animals at the saleyards.
Upper Hunter Shire Mayor Wayne Bedggood said Council was ensuring all regular users of the saleyards have a thorough understanding of the workplace procedures for their own safety, as is required under Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations.
Upper Hunter Shire Council has written to everyone who holds a key to the saleyards boom gate advising them of the need to complete the induction. Others who regularly attend the saleyards such as agents, contractors, transporters, buyers and Council employees will also be inducted.
Upper Hunter Shire Mayor Wayne Bedggood said that not everyone that attends the saleyards needs to be inducted.
“If you go to the saleyards for a sale and are being escorted by an agent or Council employee you do not need to have undertaken a site induction,” Cr Bedggood said.
“There will also be an announcement at every sale from 1 May 2016 giving the daily induction brief to visitors.”
Those who have not completed site inductions will have access to the Scone Saleyards restricted from 1 May 2016.
The induction has two parts – a certificate that can be completed online at any time, and on site inductions that will be held in April 2016. Firstly regular users will need to get online to complete module one of the Saleyards WHS induction through Tocal College.
Once they have received their WHS certificate they will need to register to attend one of the inductions that will be held in April 2016 across the Upper Hunter Shire.
