Dear Business Members and Colleagues,
You will be aware that the progress of the Bypass is ahead of schedule. What you may not know is that Council and the RMS are yet to sign off on the treatment of Kelly St, post the bypass.
This situation cannot be allowed to remain unresolved for much longer. We would like to ask you all to put pen to paper to assist us (and Council) get a resolution that gives us all the best opportunity to minimise the timeframe between the opening of the bypass and the beginning of the revitalisation of Kelly St.
This is a similar request to one we made of businesses 18 months ago when many of you signed a form letter that we sent off to politicians supporting the Councils application for funding – this was a huge success with over 200 signatures.
We ask that you take the time to write an email to:
The Hon. Paul Toole MP, Minister for Regional Transport and Roads
Mr Michael Johnson, MP, Member for Upper Hunter
**We have enclosed a template letter for ease and speed purposes**
However, if you wish to draft your own, the key points for consideration include:
- The timeframe to cement the future of Kelly Street is urgent as the Bypass is imminent.
- The road is at the end of its useful life (40 years) and needs to be left to the people of Scone in a state that will not pose major maintenance issues and costs.
- As a regional town, we are already under significant duress, making the heart of Scone, Kelly Street a major factor in the success or failure of our businesses.
- State government has already earmarked $7 million for this project but we are yet to receive formal confirmation. This certainty is a must for Scone and the Upper Hunter to confidently move forward and drive a strong economy.
