Following a well-attended Annual General Meeting of the Scone Chamber of Commerce last night, a re-elected Chamber President Steve Guihot said that the main focus for the Chamber for the next twelve months was the revitalisation of Kelly Street. “We had a good presentation from Council [at the AGM] which indicated some work beginning before the end of this year,” he said.

“The time for getting on with the job is now here and we intend advocating strongly on behalf of the Members to ensure that Council meets that timeline,” he said. The Chamber also announced the results of a recent survey of their Members indicating that 80% of respondents wanted the revitalised Kelly St to feature roundabouts at all intersections. “We will provide Council with these results to help inform the decision making moving forward” he continued.

The AGM saw the election of a new Committee featuring some old faces and some new.  The Executive Committee features Rachael McGuirk (Helloworld Scone) as Vice President, Garry Gilkeson (Shire Financial Services) as Secretary, and Scott Shann (Australian Equine Veterinary Services) as Treasurer.  The remainder of the Committee includes Jillian Lennon (Buttered Scone), Hamish Firth (Nutrien), and Duncan Yuille (Sherrin Partners).

“I am very pleased to be given the opportunity to lead the Chamber for the next year and hope that business conditions improve during that time,” said Mr. Guihot.  “It’s been a very tough few years for all small businesses in the district and with the potential of a revitalised Kelly Street, development of a major facility for the Airport and significant investment in the racing industry, the future is starting to look a little brighter” he concluded.
